1988

There is nothing better to me than whipping out one of the many photo albums sitting on my parents book shelf and looking at old photos. I have always LOVED, even as a child, looking at photographs {speaking of- I wonder if that has anything to do with my passion for photography?}. I always wanted to take all of my favorite pictures and scan/print them but never even got past the idea when I would think of the time and effort that took.

When I got to Mississippi, once again, I pulled out the good ol' photo albums....and then I got the bright idea to take pictures of the pictures :)

In the past, the best part of looking through photo albums was the nostalgia of it all; remembering "that outfit" or "that wallpaper".  Now looking through photo albums, the best part is seeing how much Amelia looks like me. I see certain facial expressions that she makes and in milliseconds, my brain is bouncing back to some of these old photos where I am making that same cheese. If only baby A had a head full of hair....

1988 was the year I was born, hard to believe I have a child of my own and making our own memories.

Most of these are of my brother and I. I remember him being OBSESSED with me, always checking on me and making sure I was safe at all times. Every time a commercial would come on the TV, I remember him asking EVERY SINLGE TIME "Nina do you want that? I can tell santa to bring it to you for Christmas alwite?" Without a doubt it is the relationship I have with my brother, my very best friend, that convinces me to have just one more child so Amelia can experience that same friendship.

Taking a trip down memory lane:

My dad is the little tyke on the right...this is his ONLY childhood photo.

My great grandmother that raised my dad...who happens to be the lady sweet Amelia was named after.

coloring books and patent leather shoes=love.

Nuno's first birthday but most importantly, the day mom found out I was gestating hahah.

Amelia is sooooo my child! Team Icing.

my beautiful mama.

me and my baja :)

Ahhh, back to reality.
Today was the most relaxing and beautiful day here yet. We took Amelia to the park, grocery store, played outside....and surprisingly my mom figured out how to use the camera and took some decent shots of us...

Tomorrow I will be sharing our Mardi Gras experience and all the crazies that come out for the purple, green and yellow!

ocean springs: the little things.

Many know that my parents and brohan moved to Ocean Springs, MS last June. And before you start thinking your stereotypical thoughts about Mississippi....don't.

This has to be THE coolest town {next to Austin} ever. There are tons of boutiques, quaint restaurants and bars, the people are ridiculously friendly and to top off the ice cream Sundae its a HUGE art town....this is my kinda place! The cherry on top (who doesn't top their Sundaes twice?) The beach...which just so happens to be blocks from my parents home. This town reminds me of "Fredricksburg meets Taylor meets Destin,Fl meets Terry Town" if that makes any sense at all. The clean white beaches and upscale boutiques don't overshadow the old school charm but yet there is brand spanking new developments just minutes away {thank God for Target}. If you ever are looking for a cool place to visit, this is it!

I come stay with my parents for a few weeks at a time to take a break from life but also because I just love being here. Moss grows like weeds (is moss a weed??) and the weather has been perfect my whole trip! The husband will arrive in two weeks to pick me up {and I am missing my other half dearly}. Here are just some "phone" pictures from the last week:

Today we hit up the Mardi Gras parade and let me tell you...these people treat this like Christmas! The majority of people have wreaths on their door, decorations on their porch and businesses even close! The parade was fun and I got some great photos, look out for that post soon!

Have a safe and fun weekend folks! I think there is a big game going on this weekend?? Not too sure ;)

RIP

I'm going to make this post short and sweet.

At 8am this morning I received the news that an old friend from high school had past away early this morning. If you live in the Austin area and have turned on any radio or news station, you have probably heard of the Avery Ranch shooting.

Rico was a very close friend of mine during my senior year in high school and following that summer. He was such a kind heart which makes his death so tragic. He was hilarious and I will never forget that about him. For some reason I always figured I would run into him again one day and I think that is what is the hardest part about this....the permanence of death.

Here are some old pictures from the good times:

Please pray for his family, one can only imagine what they are going through. May his sweet soul rest in peace.

N.T.C: Wooden Welcome "Wreath"

I am one of those annoying people that has to have something on my front door, typically a wreath. A few weeks ago I found this perfect piece of wood, an old broken fence post, on a stroller walk on the side of the road {I guess that makes me one of those people too..} and threw it in the basket thinking I could find a perfect craft for it.

Which left me to my latest nap time craft :)

N.T.C: Wooden Welcome "Wreath"

Materials:
-Twine
-Wooden Board
-Felt
-Bling
-Paint (I used an interior paint sample)

To make the big flower on the left:

1) Cut out circles (size is up to you but make them all the same)
2) Put a good size amount of hot glue in the center
3)Squeeze together to make the three leaf clover shape and hold for 8-10 seconds
4) Cut out felt leaves beforehand if you wish and put those down before you start gluing the flower
5) I used 9 of these "petals" and you just glue them all together directly on the wood

Glue string onto the board and add jewels where needed. Paint whatever you want onto the board. I didn't trace the letter because I was in a hurry but wish I would have because the off centeredness totally bothers me. I was thinking about putting "Welcome" or something like that but thought I would just plaster our identities on our front door instead.

easy. peasy :)

This took me about 30 minutes with the felt work taking up the majority of my precious nap time. I think it turned out SO cute and I LOVE it. Plus it can stay up all year round!

Do YOU have any cool front door decor?!
